Joey Carson,
CEO,
Bunim Murray Productions

With unparalleled experience in business, finance and entertainment production, Joey Carson serves as chief executive officer of Bunim/Murray Productions. In this role he guides the L.A-based company, known for its successful reality TV shows, as it expands into scripted series and innovative programming: from brand-driven entertainment to custom-designed product that holds equal promise for television, the Web and emerging platforms such as mobile wireless.

Carson joined Bunim/Murray in 2001 as chief operating officer, joining the company after it had earned acclaim for producing MTV’s “The Real World” for over a decade as well as “Road Rules,” “Making the Band” and other popular unscripted television series. Early in his tenure he launched a number of production management initiatives that, combined with Bunim/Murray’s unmatched creativity and innovation, generated an outpouring of new projects at the company. They included a string of unscripted entertainment “firsts”: the first reality sitcom (“The Simple Life” for Fox), the first reality feature film (The Real Cancun with New Line) and the first real-life daytime drama strip (Emmy award-winning “Starting Over,” syndicated by NBC Universal).

In 2004, as it ramped up production on “The Simple Life,” Bunim-Murray produced other primetime series under Carson’s leadership: “The Rebel Billionaire: Branson’s Quest For the Best” (Fox) and the debut season of “The Scholar” (ABC), among them. This past year the company has continued to produce projects for cable, syndication and primetime, including the 17th season of “The Real World,” the 12th season of the “Road Rules/Real World Challenge” and the third season of “Starting Over.”

Prior to joining Bunim-Murray, Carson oversaw production and finance for Fox’s 20th Television, where he guided an aggressive production slate that included such long-running hits as “Cops” and “America’s Most Wanted.” He was instrumental in the creation of Fox’s Van Ness Films, which rapidly grew to be one of the largest suppliers for A&E’s “Biography.” Previously, Carson held a variety of financial positions with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Over the course of his career, Carson has been involved $1 billion of television production and finance, spanning network, cable and first-run syndication.

A graduate of Texas A&M University, Carson is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the Museum of Television & Radio and the Hollywood Radio & Television Society. Also a member of the United States Tennis Association, he is one of the country’s top ranked players in his age division.
